I have to admit that it was very scary the first time I thought of attempting this.
Now I can’t imagine having a shower with any warmth ever again.
I remember a time when I would dread that time when the shower would end, with the cold tiled floor, the chill time between that beautiful warm water and the soft warm towel.
It wasn’t until I turned 40, I found out about a man named Wim Hof, who had started this revolution of “Embracing the cold”
So, I started just by finishing off my showers with 10 seconds of cold water at the end. It grew each day 30 seconds, 1 minute, 2 minutes – But there was always the warm water in the beginning that would set me up to be ready for when the cold would come rushing through to make it a refreshing relief almost. It was like I looked forward to it.
It came to a point where it was just the warm at the beginning and straight to cold, and then it got to as soon as I got into the shower, I wouldn’t even touch the hot water side, straight to blue. Even in the coldest of winter, it’s like a rush, just an awesome feeling. Now when you get out of the shower becomes a time when you feel 100%!!!
I realised that I wasn’t getting sick, while so many people were coming down with the flu, or Covid 19, we were smack bang in the middle of winter, and I thought hang on a second, I’ve been feeling great for such a long.
This was going through my house at one point, my partner and her kids, all had these both, being unable to get out of bed for days at a time, while the worst that it got for me was a runny nose.
I’ve been deemed a “Lucky Idiot” by my offspring, but here I am, feeling healthy, skin is great, mind is in a great place and feeling better than I ever have in my entire life, and all of this comes down to 3 things –
Cold showers, deep mindful breathing and meditation.
